silence makes us honest.
poem + meditation
Silence doesn’t demand answers. It simply waits. For the thoughts that return when there is nothing to interrupt them. For the feelings that have been managed rather than felt. For the distance between who we are and who we say we are to shorten.
Behind the Poem:
I’ve haven’t published a poem in a while. Not because life has been particularly hard but because it finally eased up a bit.
I finished my masters in December and both middle school basketball seasons ended a little over a month ago.
The boys lost by three in the quarter finals and the girls went undefeated before repeating as champs (particularly impressive since they only won one game two years ago).
Coaching two teams, starting a new position as an English teacher on top of my role as Athletic Director and finishing a degree was a lot.
When it was over, I had more time to just be. Instead, I fell into the ease of distraction (Pokemon SoulSilver is quite addictive).
But quiet moments have a way of revealing what the noise hides so cleverly.
What I found in those slivers of time was a desire to play. To pour into my three kids. To enjoy the woman I gratefully call my Love. To make my way back to the version of self that enjoys the sunset for its beauty as much as I enjoy the feeling of a day well spent.

you are such a beautiful writer bro
Congrats on your degree and starting a new position! Sounds like you’ve been busy. Hope you enjoy easing into quieter days :)
