The Nod.
poem
The head nod is a simple but profound gesture among Black men.
Whether we’re crossing one another on the sidewalk or navigating a space void of melanin, the head nod says, “I see you.”
And what a blessing it is to be seen. Not for your talent or your taste, but for simply being.
A nod to some of my brothers in this space that help me know I’m not alone:
(poetic musings in the state of our world)
(tender meditations)
(cultural curation)
(letters from a loving father)
(reflections with some seasoning)
(parenting plus)
(curiosity on display)
(unfiltered reflections)
(cultural contemplation)

The way this poem landed with that last stanza and lingering line 😮💨. It’s a privilege to read your words and I am happy you get to find community amidst a world that often makes you, as you say, explain your presence.
As a white woman I know I will never experience this, but it was as if I was there... reading your words.
