Water the flower.
I’ve given my phone too much attention over the last month. Now I’m dealing with the results of that choice and wishing I’d poured myself into more life giving activities (cue the shears of self-reflection).
Get closer to you.
My recent phone habits have largely stemmed from a desire to escape the intense 6-week journey I've been on while pursuing a promotion at work – one that will bring me a bit closer to my dream of leading a school (I got it!)
Throughout the process I’ve been able to see parts of myself that only come out when I have a goal in mind. One of those parts is the side of me that has a propensity to prioritize what I’m doing over who I’m becoming.
Thankfully, there is art.
Art is the place I lay my head and dream beyond work.
Congratulations on the promotion, Jamal! I think that what we’re doing is naturally a part of who we’re becoming, though I get what you mean. And that line - “Art is where I lay my head…’ - gorgeous!
Jamal, congratulations! And thank you for sharing these poems - and your Sunday - with me. I’m about ready to have someone lock up my phone permanently. I’m too wishy-washy to do it myself. Hope you can take time to relax and enjoy the day.💕
