First of all, I LOVE the illustrations. Just so good, I encourage you to keep that up!
Secondly, rest is a requirement that is too easy to ignore. I have a notification in my phone that goes off every night at 10pm that says "turn it off. Shut it down." I can't be trusted to go to sleeton my own otherwise. I have to remind myself to do it. And when I listen, it makes a huge difference.
"Here I learn to be." Ah, I needed this today, and just for this last week or so in general. This inspires me to meditate (to get back into my daily meditating) on the word "Here." Hearing & saying this word in my mind, and feeling it in my bones. Thank you Jamal. 🙏🏻
Thanks, Jamal, for including a link to my essay here. I like your poem, and hope you find a way to get the number of hours of sleep that your body is asking for!
Oh, I hear you loud and clear :) and feel much the same….. it also feels that by consuming someone else’s creativity, I am neglecting my own. I am keeping my mind from running free and wild to discover and explore new opportunities for myself. I discovered that in order for me to let that happen, rest is essential.
I am sleep deprived for other reasons, but I love your illustrated poem on it.
Thanks Constance and I hope you’re able to find rest 😮💨🙏🏽
Sleep is God.
May they bless us all.

Thank you for the encouragement Janine! And I love the reminder on the phone!
If I don't remind myself, it doesn't happen. I remind myself with all sorts of things, my memory can't be trusted. The joys of perimenopause... 🤦♀️
It’s taken me a long time to make friends with rest but now we spend increasingly more time together. Love this 🙏🏻
To be friends with rest sounds amazing! 🥲
And thank you Jacqui 🙏🏽

I'm grateful the wisdom I found in your work resonated. I hope this week is a present one for you! ✊🏽
I love the illustration and the message. Spot on 😁
Thanks Sam!
I too often worship at the altar of “shows” and don’t get the rest I need either. Love the quotes you gave here! Congrats on the newsletter.
Thank you Amy! And I appreciate the solidarity!
This is such a great metaphor, Jamal. Cheers to your first illustrated newsletter!
Thank you! 🥂
I’ve been on the sleep deprived train too. Time to hop off lol
And may we never board again lol
Love this illustrated poem and love Kelsey’s newsletter too. Thank you for sharing this!
Thanks Diamonde! 🙏🏽
There is a reason that the God of the Judeo-Christian tradition commanded us to have a day of rest. Too bad we rarely get it right.
Shabbat has blessed me in the past but it's apparent I need to make it a way of being.
I struggle to do that too but it’s worth it when I do. I need to get better at daily times of rest.
sunny homie be like 😭☀️
🤣

Very welcome Don and much appreciated!

Made my day bro 🤣

That's a great observation Birgit!
