Our scars hold stories - what a deep truth and I love how you surprise us with it by first guiding us into a glimpse of your childhood and later life. You need to write more memoir, my friend. I love your short notes and found notes, too. Oh, all the possibilities!

Thank you Nida! I enjoy memoir style writing but whew!

The intentionality in writing it is no joke lol.

Hoping to continue blending genres to make a cocktail I enjoy šŸ˜Š

I get that! Writing is an art AND science. Iā€™m focusing more on the art (or meaning-making) these days, but working on craft, style, genre, and all that good stuff can be super satisfying, too.

I love this!

ā€Words donā€™t reach people because theyā€™ve been placed in perfectly structured sentences. They reach them because of the humanity they reveal ā€“ scars and all.ā€

I think it is the autheticity speaking itā€™s very own vibration in a language that we crave.

I think about it often, how beautiful scars are to me. I have a few of them and was once self conscious until I got older. But when I see scars on someone else, I'm immediately drawn to the unique beauty and story behind them. Perfect is boring. Thank you for sharing, Jamal.

I LOVE this perspective Kaitlyn. Scars are beautiful, in that they are unique and represent something beyond what is seen.

I love the onion-layers of our lives that a scars peel back. That scar on your pinky, though your story, might be as much about your mother as you. A scar tells a story, but that story of course spiderwebs into so many more stories of our lives and others.

Iā€™m learning that, though scary, revealing my scars (those visible and internal) does bring peace and connection.

I love how your writing always showcases the power of humanity. Something I need reminders of often. Itā€™s why I come to Substack

Thanks, Jamal šŸ™šŸ¼

Aaaawww šŸ˜

Battle scars are a sign of someone who's been through some shit.

The fact that you exude so much joy on here is a sign that those scars haven't defined you.
